Job

Something to finally rant about has come along it would appear. Job di/satisfaction as it stands today.  What do we really have jobs for. Well the reason the world goes round these days and that is money.  We all need money to survive in today’s civilization. Yet we are on one hand working to prepare for our death.  Retirement is just that. While working it is hard to secure funds for any decent vacation or getaway so we put in our time and wait till retirement to live out our days.

Which brings me to my frustration which mainly concerns my 38,000 dollar investment in a Electrical Engineering degree and how I am working for the State in Medicaid. Mind you I do not make bad money but for what ever reason I find myself with no savings and little room to do things. My luxuries include cable/internet, a reliable car, and no roommate. I made about a 1/4th of what I am making now through most of college. I am actually in the same position as I was then as far as extra money.  I can go out a little (further places with a car sure) and enjoy the occasional sushi.  But I know that I am still one paycheck away from disaster it seems since I have little to no disposable income. I had to recently pay for a belt replacement in my car. There went a good chunk of my extra money from tax refund. So god forbid it happens again….  So what did the college and making 4x what I made really get me? Knowledge. Sure no argument there.  Apparently a car eats up that much more along with repaying the loans for the knowledge. What a system.

As for job satisfaction what is that really. How many people really get to do a job that pays them and is something they enjoy/want. I would argue not many. There are some sure but most of us find jobs in things we can do or somewhat like. But any job even one you like to do can get old eventually. Repetitive work especially. My current job with the state is like that. But even if I did get another job in engineering it would only be better because it made me more money.  EE jobs especially are largely repetitive/similar with very few in the groundbreaking design area.  Not to mention even more corporate America than the state job.  There are parts I would enjoy as well but I fear that they too would wear on me. Not a good thought.
